Last updated 2 years ago

Anyone can start a DAO. Here is a step-by-step guide.

1. Define the Purpose

You can create a DAO for almost anything, such as a Knowledge DAO, a Startup DAO, a Community DAO, an Investment DAO, an Impact DAO, a Charity DAO, etc. Once done, you can use Daoing to create a DAO with a few clicks.

2. Invite Members

While DAOs can be small or big organizations, you can always invite like-minded people to join your DAO.

You can also set as membership requirement and governance tokens for the DAO (which we call an ).

3. Fundraising (optional)

Some DAOs will do fundraising by selling cryptocurrencies or NFTs to execute their purposes while other DAOs may operate on non-monetary terms. If you are interested in launching your own ERC20 or ERC721 (NFT) tokens, you could read the here.

4. Propose, Vote and Action

When the DAOs start their operation, the members will come up with proposals to run the DAO activities and make decisions. DAOs may have initial proposals, but the members are always welcome to make new proposals. Each proposal has to go through voting before actions can be taken. As opposed to casual DAOs who operate an off-chain governance system, serious DAOs typically build their governance on-chain, i.e. they use smart contracts to run the governance system. For more info about on-chain governance please read .

5. Grow Your DAO

Companies can grow, and so do DAOs. Set up the goals and rules, invite like-minded members, and keep your DAO growing by contributing to the DAO. Join or start your DAO today!
